Meta Business Manager Permissions

This article explains the permissions required in Meta Business Manager to connect Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts, and Meta Ads assets through the platform.

About Meta Business Manager

Meta Business Manager, now also called a business portfolio, helps you organize and manage Meta assets such as Facebook, Instagram, and Meta Ads.

To connect those assets through a third-party API, you need the right permissions in Meta Business Manager.

Log in here. If you do not have an account yet, create one first.

This article focuses on permission management, so open the Settings section as shown in the image below.

If you have access to more than one business account, use the left menu to switch between them and select the correct one.

Manage permissions

Meta Business Manager is structured around Business account > People > Assets. You can open permission management here or go to Settings > Users > People.

Business account may also appear as business portfolio.

Here is what each part means:

  • Business account: the main account for the business. You need access here to manage Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts, and Meta Ads accounts.

  • People: personal Facebook profiles that have access to the business account. Each person can manage the assets they are assigned.

  • Assets: the connected Meta properties, such as Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts, and Meta Ads accounts.

Permission levels in Meta

  • Business account: full or partial permissions.

  • Facebook Page: full permission is required.

  • Instagram account: full or partial permissions, depending on the action.

Depending on your role, you can invite other people to the business account by clicking Invite people.

The business account or business portfolio must appear as active, and the assets you want to connect must already be associated with it.

Your assets

From Settings > Users > People, click your profile to review the assets assigned to you and the permissions granted for each one. Depending on your role, you may also be able to add assets and manage the business account.
